Thanks to a donation received from Zumtobel Group employees in Dornbirn, the family groups and residential support groups at the Vorarlberg children’s village in Bregenz were able to buy 16 new hammock chairs. These special cloth swing chairs give the children a welcome place of retreat. Verena Dörler, director of the children’s village,
explains the background: “We have here many children with traumatic experiences, who need the appropriate care. Trauma pedagogy plays an important role. The hammock chairs help us in our efforts to help the children learn and to give them a sense of security or calm them if they are experiencing emotional stress.”
Most of the 16 hammock chairs have now been firmly installed in selected rooms by the caretaker. These include the living room and the communal playroom. The children enjoy wrapping themselves inside the cloth and swinging backwards and forwards. The village mothers Anita and Doris report that the hammock chairs are very popular and that the children know how to use them: for relaxing, reading and dreaming, rather than for playing and letting off steam.
Tanja Pleterski from Tridonic,
a member of the Zumtobel Group, developed this idea as a good use for the donation together with Sylvia Steinhauser from the Vorarlberg children’s village in Bregenz. The money was collected at Tridonic during the monthly after-work drinks for Zumtobel Group employees in Dornbirn. Tridonic’s management topped up the amount with their own contribution to enable the purchase of the hammock chairs for the Vorarlberg from the first “annual donation”.
