The Thorn brand started life as the Electric Lamp Service Company, founded by Sir Jules Thorn in 1928. Today the brand delivers product and service innovations to broad-based target groups, from wholesalers and contractors through to public and private specifiers and end user.

Thorn’s products are used in buildings and their surrounds, roads, cityscapes and sports facilities in more than 100 countries, where the brand has built a strong reputation for reliability, functionality and technically advanced design within its comprehensive portfolio.

By establishing the Thorn Academy of Light in 2008, Thorn has put in place a pioneering concept for the comprehensive training and continuing professional development of the brand‘s employees and customers. The new production plant in Spennymoor, England, opened in 2009, also houses the headquarters of the Thorn Academy of Light with modern training and exhibition facilities.
