  • Transfer of finished products warehouse to Dachser in Langenau
  • Start-up planned for 1 January 2016
  • Further growth for production site in Dornbirn

Dornbirn / Austria – The Zumtobel Group is to transfer the finished goods warehouse at its lighting plant in Dornbirn / Schweizerstraße to the logistics provider Dachser in Langenau (near Ulm/Germany). As part of this move, the external raw materials and semi-finished products warehouse in Hohenems will be integrated into the Schweizerstraße plant.

The new partner Dachser SE – an internationally successful logistics company headquartered in Kempten – has a logistics centre at its Langenau site, located directly next to the A7/A8 motorway intersection, with some 65,000 square metres of storage area, 120,000 pallet spaces and optimal infrastructure.

The work of transferring the goods and building up stocks at the new finished products warehouse will start in October 2015 and is to be completed in time for worldwide deliveries to commence as from 1 January 2016. This transfer will also optimise integration with the Zumtobel Group’s other distribution centres in Europe. In Dachser SE, a strong partner has been found to operate the finished products warehouse. A long-term strategic collaboration with Dachser is planned.

Operations Director Herwig Burtscher is particularly pleased: “Outsourcing our logistics represents the last step towards optimisation of the production process in the context of the lighting plant expansion, which has already been completed. Another positive aspect of this move is that local residents can look forward to around 120 fewer truck trips on a daily basis.”

The realignment of distribution logistics is part of the ongoing development of the Dornbirn lighting plant. To enable further growth of the facility, the Zumtobel Group invested EUR 20 million in a new production building on the existing premises of its main plant in 2012 and 2013. The transfer of the finished products warehouse and integration of the external warehouse for production materials into the plant will mean a significant further improvement in the general conditions conducive to an optimal production process. Production at the Zumtobel Group’s main plant in Dornbirn is now ideally set up to meet the future challenges of the world market.
