Dornbirn, Austria – A new, energy-efficient LED lighting solution from Zumtobel is heralding in a new light age at the Inatura nature museum in Dornbirn. The conventional spotlights of the former lighting system at Inatura have been replaced with new energy-saving “Supersystem” 3-phase spots from Zumtobel. The Supersystem spotlights, each with three 2.6W LED spots, have been installed in the entrance hall and in many of the exhibition zones at Inatura. The neat thing about this solution is that the old spotlights were simply taken down and the new ones slotted into the existing power track.
Zumtobel’s LED-based Supersystem lighting made its debut at the 2010 Light + Building fair in Frankfurt, Germany. The very small LED spots with a lifetime of around 50,000 hours make for energy-efficient illumination and are ideal for highlighting exhibits.
“Using this new multifunctional LED lighting system opens up bright new prospects for Inatura. We have already noticed a marked improvement in lighting quality at the museum and many of our exhibits are now truly revealed in a new light. On top of which, this new and very energy-efficient system will save us some EUR 10,000 a year in energy costs,” said Inatura Commercial Director Peter Schmid.
The new lighting solution represents sponsorship in-kind by the Zumtobel Group for the new “Science Center” at Inatura. The first Science Center was opened at the museum last year with the support of the Vorarlberg Industrial Association and a number of companies from the region. The Science Center aims to familiarise children, young people and adults with aspects of science and technology in an entertaining, interactive way. Energy is the overarching topic of the different “Science Zones” which also include a special “Light and Optics” section.
“The Science Center mainly appeals to children and young people, which means that it helps to promote an interest in and knowledge of technology. As an innovation leader it was only natural that we should support this project. By choosing to contribute through sponsoring in-kind we have also created an opportunity to demonstrate Zumtobel’s lighting solutions expertise to our customers and employees in an outstanding application just a stone’s throw from our headquarters in Dornbirn,” said Zumtobel Group CEO Harald Sommerer.
