Occupational health and safety
The health and safety management systems at the Tridonic plants in Dornbirn and Innsbruck were certified in accordance with the OHSAS 18001 standard (in 2009 and 2010). A review is currently under way to ascertain whether certification is feasible for the luminaire plant in Lemgo.
The monthly TRI rate (total recorded injuries per million hours worked) is recorded in all our plants. All incidents, regardless of their impact, are included in the calculations. The most frequent injuries are those caused by cuts. In the long term, the Zumtobel Group is aiming to reduce the TRI rate to 10. The lighting plants in Europe reported a fall in the TRI rate to 18.9% (2009/10: 22.0%) in the year under review. In our components plants, the worldwide TRI rate rose to 10.6% (2009/10: 8.3%).
The LTI rate (Lost Time Injuries or number of working days missed due to injuries per million hours worked) is measured in order to differentiate between industrial accidents having various degrees of seriousness. Industrial accidents are taken into account if they involve more than eight hours off work. In the 2010/11 financial year, the LTI rate was 14.0% (2009/10: 18.1%) in the lighting plants and 9.5% (2009/10: 7.3%) in the components plants.
Measures such as employee training, improvements in protective clothing, upgrading of installed machinery, etc. are constantly being taken in order to improve occupational safety. The Zumtobel Group is continually making investments to improve working conditions. The lighting installation at the Lemgo plant was modernised when the plant was upgraded, for instance, and provides an improved lighting situation in the workplace to aid concentration. Modernising the air conditioning system and installing a trendsetting Zumtobel open-plan office lighting solution in Dornbirn has also improved working conditions for employees.
