Service agreement with Zumtobel Group Services: Faigle opts for light as a service and reduces energy consumption by 65 per cent
The new brand Zumtobel Group Services will be in charge of the lighting refurbishment for the Vorarlberg-based manufacturer of plastic solutions. The service agreement, including planning, implementation and support as well as project management and a financing model, guarantees a reduction in energy consumption by 65 percent.
Dornbirn, Austria – With the Zumtobel Group Service NOW, Faigle Kunststoffe GmbH makes use of a special way of purchasing light. In the head office in Hard, Austria, the four production halls as well as various side rooms have been equipped with state-of-the-art LED luminaires. The luminaires were installed without any acquisition costs, but instead with an all-round service, which includes all benefits from planning the lighting refurbishment to regular maintenance. With “light as a service”, the customer does not buy any luminaires, but rather pays a fixed monthly rate and is in turn guaranteed that the lighting solution will provide a pre-defined level of illumination. Previously, traditional strip lights with T16 fluorescent bulbs were installed at Faigle. Now, modern Zumtobel and Thorn LED luminaires have taken their place. As a result, the electricity output has been lowered from 49 to 19 kilowatts and the annual energy consumption for lighting has been reduced by 65 per cent. For the environment, this means that 60 tonnes of CO2 will be saved annually.
Guarantee of an average 400 lux
Employees work up to 6864 hours per year in the production halls at Faigle - sometimes in multiple shifts. Artificial light is therefore extremely important. In order to provide the employees with optimal lighting conditions at all times of day, all multi-shift operation areas as well as mail and side rooms were fitted with around 400 energy-efficient LED luminaires. Planning was the responsibility of the expert team from Zumtobel Group Services. Inspections, maintenance jobs and regular upgrades are included over a total contract period of five years. This guarantees that the lighting always corresponds to current requirements and remains to be state-of-the-art. With an average of 400 lux, the level of illumination is clearly above the prevailing norm. In regard to his employees, the optimal illumination for tool making, injection moulding and extrusion areas was of great concern to Faigle’s production manager, Jürgen Zech. Previous to the implementation of the service package, different activities including the associated lighting requirements were analysed. Thereafter, the appropriate luminaires were selected from the Zumtobel Group’s portfolio. As DALI luminaires on TECTON rails the chosen luminaires have already been ideally prepared for the proposed incorporation of the lighting into a building automation system.
“We had the choice of purchasing the new luminaires ourselves – as we were accustomed to do – or of transferring the responsibility for the lighting installation to Zumtobel Group Services by opting for the NOW service package. The second option seemed to offer various advantages. On the one hand, we saved ourselves a great deal of time, since the NOW team has undertaken both the planning and the selection of the luminaires. On the other hand, it is very reassuring to know that the lighting is in good hands for the next few years – not only with regard to maintenance, but also concerning possible changes to standards and legislation. We are guaranteed that the lighting will be continually maintained and if necessary improved. Furthermore, we consider the savings that we achieve with the new LED luminaires very positive” Jürgen Zech, production manager and member of the Faigle management
, summarises the advantages of the service package.
NOW customers also have the opportunity of keeping up existing partnerships. Therefore, Faigle chose to commission a long-term electrical partner with the installation of the LED lighting solution. Kremmel & Schneider from Lustenau were able to carry out the entire installation of the new lighting solution during the two-week company holiday.
Customised light as a service
The NOW service package enables companies to transfer the entire issue of lighting to Zumtobel Group Services as a partner. An expert team of project managers prepares an offer, consisting of different modules that meet various customer needs. Instead of high capital expenditure and operating costs, a fixed monthly rate is determined. Therefore, the NOW service agreement does not focus on the purchase of luminaires, but rather guarantees customer benefits such as a certain level of illumination. The goal is to provide the customer with a modern, energy-saving and efficient lighting solution and at the same time eliminate high acquisition costs and take on responsibility for the lighting.
